A Holm production

BOUND

Writer/Director Jesse Briton • Musical/Movement Director Joe Darke • Design Buddug James Jones • Lighting Design Seth Rook-Williams • Producer Lindsay Fraser

Bound follows the fortunes of six trawler-men from Devon as they embark on one final voyage. Compelled by the threat of bankruptcy, ageing fishing trawler 'The Violet' is forced out into treacherous weather. Defying storms, friendships, and their lives ashore, will they lose more than a way of life...

A sea-bleached tragedy of maritime decline told with traditional sea shanties.

Bound was first performed as a student production at East 15 Acting School’s Debut Festival in early 2010. Later that year it premiered at Edinburgh Fringe where it played to sold out houses throughout it’s month run. In 2011 the production transferred to headline the Holden Street Theatre’s programme for the Adelaide Fringe, before returning to the UK to undergo its first national tour and a sold out run at Southwark Playhouse. Further UK touring followed in 2012 and 2016 a production was licensed for the L.A. fringe.

During its 2010 - 2012 productions Bound won a Fringe First, Herald Angel, Herald Little Devil, Holden Street Theatres Award, Clonmell Best Theatre Show, NSDF and Methuen Edinburgh Emerging Artists' Competition, Off West End Theatre Award for Best Choreographer, Adelaide Critics Choice Award and Adelaide Fringe Award for Best Performer. A subsequent 2016 production at the L.A. Fringe was awarded Critics Choice.

Bound is published in the UK by Faber and Faber and copies are available here.
